At low temperature, pure semiconductors act as insulators. Justify the statement.

    Answer:

At low temperature, all states in valence band of semiconductor are filled while all states in conduction band are empty. An applied electric field cannot give, enough energy to the valence electrons, so that they could cross the gap and enter the conduction band. Hence, at low temperature, semiconductors behave like insulators.
