The areas of a square and a rectangle are equal. If the length of the rectangle is 8 metre more than the side of the square and its breadth is 6 metre less than the side of the square, what is the perimeter of the rectangle? (in metre)

    A)  100

    B)  90

    C)  110

    D)  80

    E)  120

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

     Let the side of square be x metre. \[\therefore \] Length of rectangle = (x + 8) metre Breadth \[=(x-\text{ }6)\]metre According to the question, \[(x+8)(x-6)={{x}^{2}}\] \[\Rightarrow \,{{x}^{2}}+8x-6x-48={{x}^{2}}\] \[\Rightarrow \,2x=48\Rightarrow x=24\] metre \[\therefore \]Perimeter of rectangle = 2 (length + breadth) \[=2\left( x:+8+x-6 \right)\] \[=2\left( 2x+2 \right)\] \[=4\text{ }\left( x+1 \right)=4\times 25=100\] metre
