     Let the ages of the man and his son be 11x year and 5x years respectively.             According to the question. \[11x+5x=2\times 40\] \[\Rightarrow 16x=80\] \[\Rightarrow x=\frac{80}{16}=5\] \[\therefore \] Son's age=\[5x=5\times 5=25\,years\]
