A shopkeeper allows 13% discount on the marked price. How much per cent more than the cost price must he mark on his goods to earn a profit of 20%?

    A)  36.32%

    B)  39.25%

    C)         33.93%

    D)         37.93%

    E)         None of these

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

    Let the marked price be\[Rs.\,\,100\]. Then\[SP=Rs.\,\,87\] \[\therefore \]\[CP=\frac{87}{120}\times 100=Rs.\,\,72.50\] \[\therefore \]Difference between MP and CP \[=100-72.5=Rs.\,\,27.5\] Required\[%=\frac{27.5}{72.5}\times 100=37.93%\]             Another Method: Let CP = 100 SP = 120 MP\[=120\left( \frac{100}{89} \right)=137.93\] \[\Rightarrow \]He must mark \[137.93-100=37.93%\] above the cost price.
