    Solution :

    Let the age of X = x yr and age of Y = y yr \[\therefore \]      \[(x-3)=2(y-3)\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x-3=2y-6\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x-2y=-\,3\] and \[x+7+y+7=83\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[~x+y=6\] On solving Eqs. (i) and (ii), we get \[x=45,\] \[y=24\]
