    A monkey climbs 30 ft at the beginning of each hour and rests for a while when he slips back 20 ft before he again starts climbing in the beginning of the next hour. If he begins his ascent at 8.00 am, at what time will he first touch a flag at 120 ft from the ground?

    Solution :

    Clearly, the monkey climbs 10 ft in one hour.              So, it will climb upto a height of 90 ft in 9 h, i.e., at 5 : 00 pm It will then ascend a height of 30 ft in the next hour to touch the peak at 6:00 pm.
