    The perimeter of a rectangle is 160 m and the difference of two sides is 48 m. Find the side of a square whose area is equal to the area of this rectangle.

    Solution :

    Let the length and breadth of rectangle are a and b respectively. According to the question,             \[2(a+b)=160\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[a+b=80\]                                ?(i) \[\Rightarrow \]   \[\frac{a-b=48}{2a=128}\]                                 ?(ii) \[\Rightarrow \]   \[a=\frac{128}{2}=64\,m\] From Eq. (i),             \[b=80-64=16m\] \[\therefore \] Area of rectangle \[=64\times 16\,{{m}^{2}}\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[{{(Side)}^{2}}=64\times 16\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[Side=8\times 4=32\,m\]
