Of the three numbers, the second is twice the first and it is also thrice the third. If the average of three numbers is 44, the difference of the first number and the third number is

    A) 24

    B) 18

    C) 12

    D) 6

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    Let the first number \[=3x\] Second number \[=6x\] and third number \[=2x\] According to question,             \[44=\frac{3x+6x+2x}{3}\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x=\frac{44\times 3}{11}=12\] \[\therefore \]      First number \[=3\times 12=36\] and third number \[=\text{ }2\times 12=4\] Hence, required difference \[=36-24=12\]
