    Solution :

    Let the number be x. By given condition, \[\text{=}\,\,\text{20 }\!\!%\!\!\text{ }\,\text{of }x\,\,\text{=}\,\,\text{30 }\!\!%\!\!\text{  of 40}\] \[\therefore \]      \[\frac{x\times 20}{100}=\frac{40\times 30}{100}\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x=\frac{40\times 30}{20}=60\]
