                  A bag contains 50 paise, Rs. 1 and Rs. 2 coins in the ratio 2 : 3 : 4. If the total amount is Rs. 240, what is the total number of coins?

    A) 90                                

    B) 150

    C) 180

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    Let the number of coins of 50 paise, Rs. 1 and Rs. 22 coins are 2x, 3x and 4x respectively. Value of 50 paise coins \[=Rs.\,x\] Value of Rs. 1 coins \[=Rs.\,3x\] and     value of Rs. 2 coins \[=Rs.\,8x\] Therefore, \[x+3x+8x=240\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x=\frac{240}{12}=20\] Hence, total number of coins \[=2x+3x+4x=9x\]             \[=9\times 20=180\]
