Age Group (in years) Per cent
    Up to 15 30.00
    16-25 17.75
    26-35 17.25
    36-45 14.50
    46-55 14.25

If there are 10 million people in the age group 56 yr and above, what is the difference between the numbers of people in the age groups 16-25 and 46-55?

    A)  6.8 million

    B)  5.6 million

    C)  28.4 million

    D)  34.7 million

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    Per cent of population in the age group 56 yr and above \[=5.12+1.13=6.25\] Now, 6.25% of population  \[=10\,\text{million}\] \[\therefore \] Total population \[=\frac{10\times 100}{6.25}\,\text{million}\]      \[=160\,\text{million}\]million Difference in per cent of people in the age groups (16-25] and (46-5 5) \[=17.75-14.25\] \[=3.5\] \[\therefore \] The required difference             \[=3.5%\text{ of }160\text{ million}\] \[=\frac{3.5\times 160}{100}\,\text{million}\]             \[=5.6\,\text{million}\]
