    Solution :

    Let the number of students \[=x\] Then, \[40%\text{ of}\,x=972\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x=\frac{972\times 100}{40}=2430\] Then, the number of boys = 60% of 2430             \[=\frac{60\times 2430}{100}=1458\]
