  • question_answer
If the radius of the base of a cone be doubled and height left unchanged, then the ratio of the volume of the new cone to that of the original cone will be

    A)  1 : 4

    B)  2: 1

    C)  1: 2

    D)  4: 1

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    Let r and h he the radius and height of the cone respectively. \[\therefore \]      \[{{V}_{1}}=\frac{1}{3}\pi {{r}^{2}}h\] New height = h and new radius \[=2r\] \[\therefore \]      \[{{V}_{2}}=\frac{1}{3}\pi (2{{r}^{2}}h)=4\left( \frac{1}{3}\pi {{r}^{2}}h \right)\]             \[{{V}_{2}}=4{{V}_{1}}\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[{{V}_{1}}:{{V}_{2}}=1:4\]
