  • question_answer
The age of a father is twice that of the elder son. Ten years hence the age of the father will be three times that of the younger son. If the difference of ages of the two sons is 15 yr, the age of the father is

    A)  50 yr

    B)  55 yr

    C)  60 yr

    D)  70 yr

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Let the age of the elder son be x yr. Then, age of younger son \[=(x-15)\,yr;\] age of the father = 2x yr. So, \[2x+10=3(x-15+10)\Leftrightarrow 2x+10=3x-15\] \[\Leftrightarrow \,\,\,x=25.\] \[\therefore \] Father's age \[=2x=50\,yr.\]
