A vessel contains 30 litres mixture of milk and water in the ratio of 5:1.8 litres mixture is drawn out of it and is replaced by 3 litres of milk and 2 litres water. What is the ratio of milk and water in the new mixture?

    A) 64 : 17

    B) 71 : 19

    C) 49 : 9

    D) 53 : 27

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    \[\therefore \] 8 l mixture is drawn off \[\therefore \] Quantity of milk in (30 - 8 litre) mixture = \[\frac{5}{6}\times \]22 litre Net quantity of milk =     \[\left( \frac{5}{6}\times 22+3 \right)=\frac{64}{3}litre\] Net quantity of water=    \[\left( \frac{1}{6}\times 22+2 \right)=\frac{17}{3}litre\] Required Ratio = \[\frac{64}{3}:\frac{17}{3}\]= 64:17
