    If \[\frac{x}{2}+\frac{y}{3}=4\] and \[\frac{2}{x}+\frac{3}{y}=1\] then what is x + y equal to?

    A) 11

    B) 10

    C) 9

    D) 8

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    \[\frac{x}{2}+\frac{y}{3}=4\Rightarrow 3x+2y=24\] ?(1) also  \[\frac{2}{x}+\frac{3}{x}=1\Rightarrow 3x+2y=xy\]           ?(2) From (1) and (2) we have \[\Rightarrow \] xy = 24 \[y=\frac{24}{x}\]Now from (1) \[3x+\frac{2\times 24}{x}=24\] \[\Rightarrow \,\,\,\,\,\,3{{x}^{2}}-24x+48=0\]               ? (3) \[\begin{align} & \Rightarrow \,\,\,\,\,\,3{{(x-4)}^{2}}=0\Rightarrow x=4 \\ & y=\frac{24}{y}=\frac{24}{4}=6\Rightarrow x+y=4+6= \\ \end{align}\]
