The perimeter of a triangular field is 240 m. If two of its sides are 78 m and 50 m, then what is the length of the perpendicular on the side of length 50 m from the opposite vertex?

    A) \[43\text{ }m\]

    B) \[52.2\text{ }m\]

    C) \[67.2\text{ }m\]

    D) \[70\text{ }m\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    Third  side of triangle \[=240-78-50=112\text{ }cm\] semi-perimeter \[\left( s \right)=\frac{240}{2}=120\] By Herons formula Area of triangle \[=\sqrt{s(s-a)\,(s-b)\,(s-c)}\] \[=\sqrt{120(120-112)(120-78)(120-50)}\] \[=1680\,{{m}^{2}}\] Now, \[\frac{1}{2}\times 50\,m\times perpendicular=Area\,of\,Triangle\] \[=\frac{1}{2}\times 50\times p=1680\Rightarrow p=\]
