    Ajeet read 90 pages of a book in one day. Next day he reads \[\frac{4}{5}\] part of the rest. Now \[\frac{1}{8}\] part of the book are left to read. How many pages are in the book?

    Solution :

     Let the total number of pages in the book be x. So, \[90+(x-90)\times \frac{4}{5}+\frac{1}{8}\times x=x\] \[90+\frac{4x}{5}-72+\frac{x}{8}=x\] \[90-72=x-\frac{4x}{5}-\frac{x}{8}\] \[18=\frac{40x-32x-5x}{40}\,\,\,\Rightarrow \,\,3x=18\times 40\] \[x=240\] \[\therefore \]  Total number of pages in a book \[=\underline{\mathbf{240}}\]
