A train running at an average speed of 48 km/hr performs a journey in 6 hours 30 minutes How long would the same journey take it after crossing 180 kms, the speed was reduced to 33 km/hr?

    A)  7 hours 45 minutes

    B)  4 hours

    C)  \[3\frac{3}{4}\]hours

    D)  6 hours 45 minutes

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

     Distance covered = Speed \[\times \]Time \[=48\times \left( 6+\frac{30}{60} \right)\] \[=48\times 6\frac{1}{2}=48\times \frac{13}{2}\] =312 km Case II Time taken in covering first 180km \[=\frac{180}{48}=\frac{15}{4}\]hours Remaining distance \[=312-180=132~\]km Speed = 33 kmph \[\therefore \]Time \[=\frac{132}{33}=4\] hours Total time \[=\left( \frac{15}{4}+4 \right)\] hours = 7 hours 45 minutes
