When number of turns in a coil is trippled, with-out any change in the length of coil, its self inductance becomes?

    A)  Nine times

    B)  Three times

    C)  Six times

    D)  One-third

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

     Self-inductance is proportional to the number of turns per unit length. The original self-inductance (L) is given by \[L=\frac{{{\mu }_{0}}\pi {{(N)}^{\frac{2}{r}}}}{2}\] On-tripling N, the new self-inductance becomes L \[=\frac{{{\mu }_{0}}\pi {{(3N)}^{\frac{2}{r}}}}{2}=9\times \frac{{{\mu }_{0}}\pi {{(N)}^{\frac{2}{r}}}}{2}=9L\]
