  • question_answer
A father is thirty times older than his son. However, 18 years later, he will be only thrice as old as his son. What is the father's present age?

    A)  20 years

    B)  60 years

    C)  25 years

    D)  40 years

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

     Let the present age of son = x \[\therefore \] age of father \[=30x\] After 18 years, the age of father and son will be \[(30x+18)\] and \[(x+18)\] respectively. \[\therefore \] By question, \[(30x+18)=3(x+18)=3x+54\] \[\therefore \] \[30x-3x=54-18\] \[\therefore \] \[27x=36\] \[\therefore \]  \[x=\frac{36}{27}\] \[\therefore \] age of father = 30x \[=30\times \frac{36}{27}=40\]years.
