Which of the following concentration factor is affected by change in temperature?   AIEEE  Solved  Paper-2002

    A) Molarity

    B)           Molality

    C)           Mole fraction

    D)          Weight fraction

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Molarity is defined as number of moles of solute dissolved in 1 L of solution. Molarity (M) \[=\frac{\text{number of moles of solute}}{\text{volume of solution in litre}}\] From the above formula it is very clear that molarity depends upon volume of solution. Volume increases with increase of temperature and thus molarity decreases. Molality is defined as number of moles of solute dissolved in 1 kg of solvent. Mass is independent of temperature and so molality is also independent of it. Mole fraction is defined as ratio of number of moles of solute to number of moles of solution and as number of moles are independent of temperature so mole fraction is also independent of temperature. Weight fraction is ratio of weight of one component of solution to the ratio of all components of solution. As weight is independent of temperature so weight fraction is also not affected by change in temperature.
