A player caught a cricket ball of mass 150 g moving at a rate of 20 m/s. If the catching process is completed in 0.1 s, the force of the blow exerted by the ball on the hand of the player is equal to     AIEEE  Solved  Paper-2006

    A) 150N

    B) 3N

    C) 30N

    D)        300N

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    This is the question based on impulse-momentum theorem. \[|J|=|F.\Delta t|=|Change\text{ }in\text{ }momentum|\] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[F\times 0.1=|{{p}_{f}}-{{p}_{i}}|\] As the ball will stop after catching. \[\therefore \] \[{{p}_{i}}=m{{v}_{i}}=0.15\times 20=3,\text{ }{{p}_{f}}=0\] \[\Rightarrow \] \[F\times 0.1=3\Rightarrow F=30\text{ }N\]
