                Frederick Griffith (1928) found that 'something' passed from heat-killed encapsulated forms of Pneumococcus to live non-capsulated forms which caused them to develop capsules and become virulent. Avery et. al, (1944) found this transforming agent (hence, genetic material) to be DNA.
