For a first-order reaction, the half-life period is independent of:

    A)              initial concentration

    B)              cube root of initial concentration

    C)              first power of final concentration

    D)              square root of final concentration

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

\[{{T}_{1/2}}\] of nth order reaction \[\propto \,\,\frac{1}{{{a}^{n-1}}}\]                 where a\[\to\] initial concentration of reactant                 n \[\to \]order of reaction                         \[\therefore {{T}_{1/2}}\] for first order reaction                 \[{{T}_{1/2}}\,\propto \,\,\frac{1}{{{a}^{n-1}}}\,(n=1)\]                 \[{{T}_{1/2}}\,\propto \,\,\frac{1}{{{a}^{1-1}}}\]                 or            \[{{T}_{1/2}}\,\propto \,\,\frac{1}{{{a}^{0}}}\]             So, for a first order reaction half-life is independent on initial concentration of reactants.
