    Compounds having either \[\text{C}{{\text{H}}_{\text{3}}}\overset{\begin{smallmatrix}  \text{O} \\  \text{ }\!\!|\!\!\text{  }\!\!|\!\!\text{ } \end{smallmatrix}}{\mathop{\text{C}}}\,-\] group or CH3CHOH- group, give iodoform when warmed with \[{{\text{I}}_{\text{2}}}\] and NaOH, Thus, \[\text{C}{{\text{H}}_{\text{3}}}\underset{\begin{smallmatrix}  \text{ }\!\!|\!\!\text{ } \\  \text{H} \end{smallmatrix}}{\mathop{\text{C}}}\,\text{HOH,C}{{\text{H}}_{\text{3}}}-\overset{\begin{smallmatrix}  \text{O} \\  \text{ }\!\!|\!\!\text{  }\!\!|\!\!\text{ } \end{smallmatrix}}{\mathop{\text{C}}}\,-\text{C}{{\text{H}}_{\text{3}}}\text{,C}{{\text{H}}_{\text{3}}}-\underset{\begin{smallmatrix}  \text{ }\!\!|\!\!\text{ } \\  \text{C}{{\text{H}}_{\text{3}}} \end{smallmatrix}}{\mathop{\text{C}}}\,\text{HOH}\] give iodoform when warmed with \[{{\text{I}}_{\text{2}}}\] and NaOH.
