Reserve food in the form of floridean starch and the soluble sugar-floridoside is found in

    A)  phaeophyta

    B)  chlorophyta

    C)  cyanophyta

    D)  rhodophyta.

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

: Rhodophytes are soft bodied and multicellular red algae (due to the presence of phycoerythrin, red pigment) which are mostly marine, some live in fresh water or land. Reserve food products are polysaccharides, i.e., floridean starch (which stains red with iodine sol.) and also soluble sugars called floridoside and glycerol compounds. Rhodophyta are the only ones not to produce motile forms. Eg of red algae are Porphyra and Gelidium.
