Proteins that are embedded in the liqid layer of biomembranes are called

    A)  intrinsic

    B)  extrinsic

    C)  peripheral

    D)  none of these

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

: In the plasma membrane the proteins are arranged in two forms -extrinsic (peripheral) which is present superflcially on the outer and inner surfaces of membrane and are easy to remove by mild treatment and intrinsic (integral) which penetrates the membrane surface and bimolecular lipid layer partially or wholly and form about 70% of the total membrane protein. These proteins can not be removed easily.
