Thread like protoplasmic projections on the free surface of absorptive cells (such as intestinal cells) are called

    A)  plasmodesmata

    B)  microfilaments

    C)  cilia

    D)  none of these.

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

: Cilia are motile, hair like appendages on the free surface of cells. These are extensions of cell surface (ectoplasm) and are bounded by the cell membrane. They develop from basal bodies found in the cytoplasm. Cilia beat perpendicularly either in metachronous or synchronous rhythm. Plasmodesmata are extremely fine cytoplasmic tubes which pass through the cell walls of living plant cells and are lined by a plasmamembrane of the two adjacent cells, connecting their cytoplasms. Micro filaments are long, narrow, cylinderical rod or protein filament occur in plant and animal cells.
