How does the magnetic susceptibility \[\chi \] of a paramagnetic material change with absolute temperature T?

    A) \[\chi \propto T\]

    B)         \[\chi \propto {{T}^{-1}}\]

    C)         \[\chi =\] constant

    D)         \[\chi \propto {{e}^{T}}\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

For paramagnetic material, product of magnetic susceptibility \[\chi \] absolute temperature T is constant. i. e.,     \[\chi T=\text{constant}\]                 or            \[\chi \propto \frac{1}{T}\]                 or            \[\chi \propto {{T}^{-1}}\] Note: As temperature increases \[{{\chi }_{m}}\]decreases. At some higher temperature \[{{\chi }_{m}}\] becomes negative   and   the   substance   becomes diamagnetic.
