    Solution :

    Let effective length and pole strength of a bar magnet is \[2l\] and \[m,\]then Magnetic moment                                 \[M=m\times 2l\]                            ?(i) If the magnetic moment of either part be M, then                                 \[M=ml\]                             ?(ii) Dividing Eq. (ii) by Eq. (i), we have                                 \[\frac{M}{M}=\frac{ml}{2ml}=\frac{1}{2}\]                         \[\therefore \]  \[M=\frac{M}{2}\]
