Work done in carrying a charge around an equipotential surface will:

    A)  increase

    B)         decrease

    C)         zero

    D)         infinity

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

The equipotential surfaces in an electric field have the same basic idea as topographic maps used by civil engineers or mountain climbers. An equipotential surface is a three dimensional surface on which the electric potential V is same at every point on it. When a test charge \[{{q}_{o}}\]is moved along the equipotential surface, it follows that \[\vec{E}\]must be perpendicular to the surface at every point, so that the electric force \[{{q}_{o}}\,\vec{E}\]will always be perpendicular to the displacement of a charge moving on the surface, so work done by the electric force is zero.
