    Methyl ketone is identified by:

    A) lodoform test

    B) Fehling solution

    C) Tollens reagent

    D)        Schiffs reagent

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

lodoform test is done to detect presence of\[C{{H}_{3}}CO\] group in organic compounds. (a) Fehling solution identifies aldehydes (b) Tollens reagent identifies aldehydes (d) Schiffs reagent identifies aldehydes Methyl ketone is \[C{{H}_{3}}-\overset{O}{\mathop{\overset{||}{\mathop{C}}\,}}\,-R.\] \[\because \]It has \[C{{H}_{3}}-\overset{O}{\mathop{\overset{||}{\mathop{C}}\,}}\,\]group. It is tested by using iodoform test. The compound having \[C{{H}_{3}}CO\] group give yellow ppt. on reaction with \[{{I}_{2}}\] and aqueous alkali.
