The compound which contains both ionic and covalent bond

    A) \[KCl\]

    B)         KCN

    C) \[C{{H}_{4}}\]

    D)         \[{{H}_{2}}\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

\[\text{KCl}\]has ionic bond between \[{{\text{K}}^{\text{+}}}\]and\[\text{C}{{\text{l}}^{-}}.\text{C}{{\text{H}}_{\text{4}}}\] and \[{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}}}\]have covalent bonds only. In KCN there is ionic bond between \[{{\text{K}}^{\text{+}}}\] and \[\text{C}{{\text{N}}^{-}}\]and C and N are held together by covalent bonds.
