    The animals living in dry conditions have to conserve water in their body. Therefore they synthesize crystals of uric acid from their ammonia. Uric acid crystals are nontoxic and almost insoluble in water. Such type of excretion is called, uricotelic excretion e.g., most insects, land reptiles, birds etc. In most of the aquatic animals, like protozoan, sponges, coelenterates, polychaetes, molluscs aquatic arthropods, bony and freshwater fishes amphibian tadpole ammonia is the main excretory product. This type of excretion is called ammonotelic excretion. In many land vertebrates (amphibian, mammals) urea is the chief excretory product This type of excretion is called ureotelic excretion.
