A ball of mass 150 g moving with an acceleration 20 \[m/{{s}^{2}}\] is hit by a force, which acts, on it for 0.1 s. The impulsive force is:

    A)  1.2 N-S

    B)  0.3 N-s

    C)  0.1 N-s

    D)  0.5 N-s

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

If a constant force F is applied on a body for a short interval of time Ar, then the impulse of this force is \[F\times \Delta t\]. Suppose that mass of a body is m. On applying a constant force F for a time interval At, the body suffers a velocity change \[\Delta v\].    From Newtons second law, we have                 \[F=ma=m\frac{\Delta v}{\Delta t}\] \[\therefore \] \[F=ma=0.15\times 20=3\,N\] Impulsive force \[=F\Delta t=3\times 0.1=0.3\,N-s\]
