Klinefelters syndrome is denoted by chromosome :

    A)  44 + XXY

    B)  44 + XO

    C)  44 + XXX

    D)  44 + YY

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

The genotype of the Klinefelters syndrome patient is 44 + XXY instead of 44 + XY. (i.e., this is due to an extra X-chromosome). These are male individuals who are pheribtypicaly fairly normal but have a very low sperm count and therefore sterile. Turners syndrome are characterised by monosomy of sex chromosomes (44 + XO) These are immature female (sterile) with webbed neck. The individual with (44 + YY) can not survive.
