Collagen fibre are secreted by :

    A)  mast cells

    B)  macrophage

    C)  histiocytes

    D)  fibroblasts

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Collagon fibres are most abundant in tendons. These are secreted by fibroblast cells. These are thin walled flat cells. Fibroblast cells are largest cells of connective tissue. In old condition these are known as fibrocytes. Mast cells are modified basophils of blood. These are found in connective tissue and produce histamine (vasso dilator) serotonin (vasso constrictor and heparin (anti-coagulant). Monocytes are not actively phagocytic until they live circulating blood, enter body tissue and mature into macrophages. The macrophages are phagocytic cells.
