    DNA replication requires :

    A)  DNA polymerase only

    B) DNA polymerase and ligase

    C)  Ligase only

    D)  RNA polymerase

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

In DNA replication one parental double stranded DNA molecule is converted to two identical daughter molecules. At the site of replication fork DNA helicase unwinds the parental double helix. Single stranded binding proteins bind to DNA strand to prevent rewinding, RNA primase synthesize the RNA primer and the DNA polymerase attach additional nucleotides to the free 3end of the existing DNA. The DNA synthesis is continuous on leading strand and discontinuous in lagging strand. The Okazaki fragments synthesized in lagging strand are joined by DNA ligase enzyme. DNA polymerase (usually II) proofreads each new molecules of DNA and replaces incorrectly paired bases.
