Which of the following is not an intermediate of Krebs cycle?

    A)  Acetyl Co-A

    B)  Citric acid

    C)  Succinic acid

    D)  Lactic acid

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Lactic acid is formed by the process of fermentation. Lactic acid bacteria can ferment lactose sugar formed in milk. Enzyme involved in this fermentation is lactic dehydrogenase. Acetyl Co-A is the starting substance of Krebs cycle. It is formed by acetylation and oxidative decarboxylation of pyruvic acid. Acetyl Co-A combines with 4 carbon oxaloacetic acid to form 6 C citric acid. Succinyl Co-A (4C) combines with \[{{H}_{2}}O\] to form succinic acid and Co-A is regenerated. This is substrate level phosphorylation (formation of GTP).
