Liver cirrhosis is caused by :

    A)  excess alcoholism

    B)  no alcohol

    C)  due to bacterial infection

    D)  due to viral infection

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Alcohol is not a stimulant. A part of alcohol is changed to acetaldehyde, which stimulates formation of fat. The fat is deposited over the walls of arteries and in the cells of liver. With the accumulation of fat the liver cells fail to produce proteins and enzymes. There is little regulation of fat, protein and carbohydrate metabolism. The disorder is called fatty liver syndrome. Liver later turns into a fibrous organ. The process is called cirrhosis.
