Recently Fluid mosaic model of plasma membrane has been proposed by Singer and Nicolson (1972). According to this model there are two categories of proteins i.e., extrinsic and intrinsic. Lamellar models (Sandwitch models) are early molecular models of biomembranes. These are proposed by Danielli and Davson and Robertson.
