Which of the following is a connecting link between glycolysis and Krebs cycle?

    A)  Citric acid

    B)  Pyruvic acid

    C)  Acetyl Co-A

    D)  Glucose

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Glycolysis is break down of glucose molecule into two molecules of pyruvic acid (three carbon compound). This phase of respiration takes place in cytoplasm. When Glycolysis is completed oxidative decarboxylation of pyruvic acid takes place and acetyl CoA is formed. This acetyl CoA takes part in Krebs cycle. So, acetyl CoA is a connecting link between glycolysis and Krebs cycle. Krebs cycle is also known as citric acid cycle because first step of this cycle is the formation of citric acid with the help of acetyl co-A and oxaloacetic acid.
