Transfer of any gene into a completely different organism can be done through

    A)  genetic engineering

    B)  tissue culture

    C)  transformation

    D)  None of the above

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Genetic engineering is defined as the modification of genetic information of living organisms by direct manipulation of their DNA. Thus a gene of known function (or economic importance) can be transferred from its normal location into a cell via a suitable mobile genetic element called vector such as plasmid, phage etc. Tissue culture technique was first thought of by Haberlandt (1902) and Hanning. Plant tissue culture is the technique of in vitro maintaining and growing plant cells, tissues or organs aseptically in artificial medium in suitable   containers under controlled environmental conditions. Transformation is the condition in which DNA in the environment of bacteria some how penetrates them and is incorporated into their genetic complement so, that their progeny inherit the genetic characters so acquired.
