If 2% of the main current is to be passed through the galvanometer of resistance G. The resistance of the shunt requires is :

    A)  49G

    B) \[\frac{3G}{50}\]

    C)  50G

    D) \[\frac{G}{49}\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

                                              Given,   \[\frac{{{i}_{g}}}{i}=\frac{2}{100}\] Using the relation, \[\frac{{{i}_{g}}}{i}=\frac{S}{S+G}\] or     \[\frac{2}{100}=\frac{S}{S+G}\] or   \[2S+2G=100S\] or      \[2G=100S-2S=98S\] \[S=\frac{G}{49}\]
