A galvanometer has a resistance G and current \[{{i}_{a}}\] flowing in galvanometer, produces full scale deflection. If \[{{S}_{i}}\] is the value of shunt which converts it into an ammeter of range 0 - i and is the value of shunt 0 - 2i. Then the ratio \[{{S}_{1}}/{{S}_{2}}\]will be:

    A)  1

    B) 2

    C) \[\frac{1}{2}\left( \frac{i-{{i}_{a}}}{2i-{{i}_{a}}} \right)\]

    D) \[\left( \frac{2i-{{i}_{a}}}{i-{{i}_{a}}} \right)\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

                    Let resistance of galvanometer = G Current in galvanometer \[={{i}_{a}}\] Shunt resistance \[{{S}_{1}}=\frac{{{i}_{a}}G}{i-{{i}_{a}}}\]            ??(i)                                 \[{{S}_{2}}=\frac{{{i}_{a}}G}{2i-{{i}_{a}}}\]    ??.(ii) From eq. (1) and (2)                 \[\frac{{{S}_{1}}}{{{S}_{2}}}=\frac{2i-{{i}_{a}}}{i-{{i}_{a}}}\]
