With what minimum acceleration can a fireman slide down a rope who breaking strength is two third of his weight :

    A) \[\frac{g}{3}\]

    B) \[\frac{2}{3}g\]

    C) \[\frac{3}{2}g\]

    D) \[\frac{g}{2}\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Let T is the tension in the string then net downward force \[=mg-T\] If a is downward acceleration then according to Newtons II nd law \[mg-T=ma\] Given: \[{{T}_{\min }}=\frac{2}{3}mg,\,\] than \[a={{a}_{\min }}\] So,          \[mg-\frac{2}{3}mg=m{{a}_{\min }}\]                 \[{{a}_{\min }}=g-\frac{2}{3}g=\frac{g}{3}\]
