  • question_answer
At what temperature, the speed of sound in air will become double of its valus at \[27{}^\circ C\]:

    A) \[{{54}^{0}}C\]

    B) \[{{627}^{0}}C\]

    C)  \[{{327}^{0}}C\]

    D) \[{{927}^{0}}C\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

                    Speed of sound \[\upsilon =\sqrt{\frac{\gamma RT}{m}}\]  or  \[\upsilon =\sqrt{t}\] Hence,  \[\frac{{{\upsilon }_{2}}}{{{\upsilon }_{1}}}=\sqrt{\frac{{{T}_{2}}}{T}}\]  or \[{{T}_{2}}={{\left( \frac{{{\upsilon }_{2}}}{{{\upsilon }_{1}}} \right)}^{2}}T\] Given: \[{{\upsilon }_{2}}=2{{\upsilon }_{1}},\,{{T}_{1}}=27+273=300K\] \[{{T}_{2}}=\left( \frac{2{{\upsilon }_{1}}}{{{\upsilon }_{1}}} \right)\times 300=1200K=1200-273\] \[={{927}^{o}}C\]
