The molecule which has T-shaped structure is:

    A)  \[PC{{l}_{3}}\]

    B)  \[Cl{{F}_{3}}\]

    C)  \[N{{H}_{3}}\]

    D)  \[BC{{l}_{3}}\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

\[Cl{{F}_{3}}\] has \[s{{p}^{3}}d\] hybridization. Out of five \[s{{p}^{3}}d\] hybrid orbitals two are completely tilled by Ip and three are half filled which overlap with three \[2{{p}_{z}}\] half filled orbitals of three F-atoms. Due to the presence of  two Ips its geometry is bent T-shaphed  \[:\,\,\overset{F}{\mathop{\overset{|}{\mathop{\underset{F}{\mathop{\underset{|}{\mathop{Cl}}\,}}\,}}\,}}\,-F\]
