A car of mass 1000 kg accelerates uniformly from rest to a velocity of 54 km/h in 5 s. The average power of the engine during this period in watts is (neglect friction):

    A)  2000 W

    B)         22500 W

    C)  5000 W

    D)         2250 W

    E)  1000 W

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    \[v=u+at\Rightarrow a=\frac{15-0}{5}=3\,m/{{s}^{2}}\] \[\left( \because v=54\,km/h=\frac{54\times 5}{18}=15m/s \right)\] Hence, \[{{P}_{av}}=\frac{1}{2}Fv=\frac{1}{2}mav\]                 \[=\frac{1}{2}\times 1000\times 3\times 15=22500\,W\]
